Introduction:
Digital marketing sounds very familiar in today's world. But this concept was started in 1990. Since then, there has been a lot of development in digital marketing. At first, digital marketing started through search engines like Google, Yahoo. But after the rise of social media, digital marketing reached another level. 

A common misconception is that, digital marketing and e-commerce are the same. There is a slight difference between these two. E-commerce is the way of buying and selling products over the Internet, whereas digital marketing is done for the marketing of products or services using the internet.

Digital marketing can be done across numerous platforms. In this article, I'll be focusing on three major digital marketing platforms.

Digital marketing on Facebook:

Facebook is one of the platforms where digital marketing through social media was initially started. 99% of the companies use Facebook for digital marketing because it has a vast number of users than any other social media platform.

It actively provides for this, allowing users to create individual profiles or business pages for companies and organizations.

Digital marketing on YouTube:

In my opinion, YouTube is one of the best platform for digital marketing. It is highly useful for digital marketing through video advertisements. Video ads are less hated than pop-up ads. These videos are often very interesting and the user ends up watching the whole video.

This attracts more consumers than pop-up ads. The popularity of YouTube is growing rapidly. Brands not only push ads in the opening of the video, but also sponsor videos in order to get a wider reach. Almost 8 out of 10 marketers consider YouTube to be the most effective video marketing platform.

Search engine marketing:

Apart from social media marketing, search engines like Google, Yahoo, are also great platforms for digital marketing. Every search engine has its own digital marketing strategy.

Many search engines use cookies. These cookies are designed to collect user data in order to push relevant and more personalised ads. This is more useful than pushing random ads.

Conclusion:

Digital marketing benefits businesses of all sizes by giving access to the mass market at an affordable price. While you can reach a global audience with digital marketing, you are also up against global competition. 

It can be a challenge to stand out against competitors and to grab attention among the many messages aimed at consumers online.
