SAMSUNG GALAXY S20 FAN EDITION | THE BEST SAMSUNG FLAGSHIP OF 2020 | THE TECHNOBYTE |
On 23rd September, Samsung unveiled their highly anticipated and rumoured S20 Fan Edition. Everyone was curious, because there was a virtual launch event for this smartphone. The specs have been officially released and it sounds really good for a non-Chinese smartphone. Do read the full blog and subscribe if you are new here.
Display:
When it comes to displays, Samsung is a market leader. Because they produce and offer best in class Amoled displays even in 15K budget segment. Even brands like OnePlus buy Amoled displays from Samsung. S20 FE is no exception. It has a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display.
The surprising part here is that, it has 120 Hz refresh rate, which is very uncommon from Samsung in this price range. Even their Note 20(click here) had only a 60Hz panel. The display is a real positive for the S20 FE.
Build and design:
Here, Samsung has opted for a glastic (glass combined with plastic) build instead of a glass build in order to reduce the price. But still, it has aluminium frame along the sides and the phone feels good and weights 190g.
They have introduced six new colours namely, Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White. All these colours are subtle and minimalistic. I personally prefer minimalistic colours than tacky ones.
Performance:
This is the main highlight of this smartphone. S20 FE houses the latest Exynos 990 for the 4G and Snapdragon 865 for the 5G variant. These are the latest chipsets from Qualcomm and Exynos. In fact, the regular S20 has Snapdragon 865 only in some markets. Whereas, S20 FE 5G has Snapdragon 865 globally. Both, the Exynos 990 and Snapdragon 865 are flagship chipsets.
S20 FE can seamlessly multitask and also push 120 Hz refresh rate easily without any stutters. It has 6GB RAM whereas regular S20 has 12GB RAM. In Android, 6 GB RAM is more than enough.
There will be no major differences between 6 GB RAM and 12 GB RAM in smartphones. The base variant has 6GB RAM combined with 128 GB UFS 3.1 super-fast storage.
Cameras:
- The main sensor is a 12-megapixel, f/1.8 sensor, with dual pixel autofocus. There is also support for OIS.
- The second camera is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with 123-degree field of view.
- The third camera is a 8-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3X optical zoom and 30X space zoom.
The main sensor is analogous to the regular S20. So, the images are expected to be identical to the S20. This phone can record videos only up to 4K. Whereas, the regular S20 had support for 8K video recording.
The front camera is a 32-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. It also has support for 4K and shoots decent images.
Battery:
- 25W fast charging.
- 15W wireless fast charging.
- 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
Audio:
S20 FE offers a similar audio experience like the S20 . But still, the 3.5mm headphone jack is missing. The overall audio output is expected to be excellent because it is tuned by AKG.
Advantages:
- Wireless charging.
- Flagship processor.
- 120 Hz refresh rate display.
- Great cameras.
- IP68 dust/water resistance.
- Samsung Pay.
- Samsung Dex.
Disadvantages:
- Premium build is missing.
- Charging is relatively slow when compared to its competitors.
- 3.5mm headphone jack is missing.
Pricing and conclusion:
S20 FE is expected to be priced at around 45K for the 4G variant and around 50K for the 5G variant. They go on sale from October 2. These are really excellent devices from Samsung.
If you are looking for a flagship smartphone with a ton of useful features around 50K from a tier one brand, then S20 FE is a great deal and you will not be disappointed.
